Did the Media Kill Michael Jackson?
The media has always had a bias towards Michael Jackson. Ever since the Pepsi commercial, the media has been dead on him.
At first, it seemed as if he had the media’s support, but, soon the pendulum began to swing the opposite way.
In 1986, the tabloids ran a story that stated that Michael Jackson slept in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to slow his aging process. Jackson came out to disseminate these rumors.
Also, in the 1980s, his skin gradually grew lighter and the media took notice, creating rumors about Michael Jackson bleaching his skin.
It turned out that Michael had vitiligo and lupus, both diseases made him very sensitive to sunlight, thus, causing him to carry an umbrella when he went outside.
The more pale that Jackson got, the more attention that the media payed to Jackson.
Soon, they realized that creating rumors about Michael Jackson was very profitable, including taking rumors of Jackson and his chimpanzee, Bubbles to the extreme. From there, Jackson earned the nickname “Wacko Jacko” from the media. After that, Michael did his best to avoid the media.
In 1993, Jackson gave a 90 minute interview with Oprah Winfrey. This was his first television interview since 1979. He talked about the physical and metal abuse of his father and the fact that he never had a real childhood.
From there, the media focused on Michael’s love for children. They publicized an event where he came in holding hands with Brooke Shields, but carrying Emanuel Lewis on his hip.
This set the stage for Jackson to be accused of sexual child abuse. He often invited young boys to his Neverland Ranch, especially those who were disabled or poor. Later, in 1993, a 13-year-old, Jordan Chandler and his father, Evan Chandler accused Jackson of child abuse during Jordan’s stay at the ranch.
The media took this news and ran, which obviously took a toll on Jackson. He, along with his friends and family made claims that stated that Jackson only wanted to help the children and had no desires of sexual relations with any of them.
His thanks for trying to help these people was a lawsuit that was later settled out of court.
Even after being cleared of all charges, many still felt that he was a guilty man that got off free. The media fed into that and portrayed Michael Jackson as a mad man.
During the trial, he had gotten addicted to various painkillers provided for him to deal with the stress. He stopped eating and had to cancel his Dangerous Worlds Tour.
Throughout the 1990s, Jackson was portrayed as a scenile pedophile with an addiction to pre-teenage boys. During these times, Michael turned to his wife, Lisa Marie Presley, for emotional support.
Lisa Marie often spoke out in defense of Michael.
Pressure was put upon Michael Jackson to always perform at his best when doing television performances. In late 1995, he was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during rehearsals for such a performance. The incident was caused by a stress-related panic attack.
After divorcing Lisa Maries Presley, he married Deborah Jeanne Rowe, who gave birth to his children, Michael, Jr. and Paige. By 1999, they also divorced.
In June 1999, Michael Jackson involved himself in numerous charitable events in an attempt to reinvent his image.
He soon re-entered the media with a label dispute with Sony and Tommy Mottola, which resulted in Jackson portraying Mottola as a “devil” and “racist.” At one point, Mottola described Jackson’s associate, Irv Gotti, as a “fat nigger.”
He returned to the public eye in 2001 with the release of Invincible, his first album in six years.
During this time, Jackson had his third child, Prince Michael (Blanket). It seemed as if the media had finally accepted Michael Jackson for who he was.
A few months later, the balcony incident occurred, causing more scrutiny towards Michael Jackson.
Later in 2003, a documentary, Living with Michael Jackson, emerged. The documentary featured Jackson holding hands, and speaking on sharing his bed, with Gavin Arvizo, who would later accuse him of sexual abuse.
Once again, Jackson was being attacked by the media and forced to defend himself. His longtime friend, Elizabeth Taylor, spoke out in defense of Michael on “Larry King Live.”
Michael Jackson had been charged with seven counts of child sexual abuse and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent in order to commit that felony. All charges regarded Arvizo, who was under 14 at the time of the alleged crime.
The People v. Jackson trial began in Santa Maria, California, two years after Jackson was originally charged. It was around this time that he became dependent on morphine and Demerol. Michael also suffered from stress-related illnesses and severe weight loss that altered his appearance. All of these injuries grabbed headlines in the media along with his trial.
In May 2005, the trial was over, Michael Jackson was acquitted on all counts. From there, he relocated to the Persian Gulf island of Bahrain as a guest of Sheik Abdullah.
His financial troubles became a top news story in 2006 after the main house on the Neverland Ranch was shut down.
From 2006 until the day that he died, Michael Jackson’s name stayed in the news with people always pointing out the negative. It is very much so possible that Jackson may have died due to the pressure of the constant talk about him.
One thing is for sure, on June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson made news, one last time.

If justice was ‘finally done’ all the extortionists who falsely accused Michael Jackson of molesting their children for money will come forward and admit that they had this man suffer because of greed.

FALSELY ACCUSED? HE HAD LITTLE KIDS SLEEPING IN HIS BED,DUMB ASS!
leblancstar
July 4, 2009
Yes, he had children sleeping in his bed. In a 1000 square foot bedroom – bigger than your house, probably. He also stated that when these kids slept in his bed, HE SLEPT ON THE FLOOR. Something interviewers liked to cut out of the segment to make it look sexual. He also had about 4 children, now adults, who slept in his bed 20+ times each get up on the stand in his trial and state that Michael never made any untoward advances on them…never touched them. MaCaulay Culkin, Wade Robson, and two others. What made them different? THEY WEREN”T EXTORTIONISTS.

This is a well written article. I agree that MJ must have been so heart broken by the way the media portrayed him…but he continued to make things worse by giving the media what they wanted instead of trying to grow up. Don’t get me wrong I Love Mike and may he R.I.P., but maybe if he had excepted who and what he was he could have been much happier. God Bless his Soul.

I don’t believe any of the crap about Michael and I will always miss him being part of our world.

Michael bleached his skin like many blacks with vitiligo do……….it’s the obvious treatment if you are so much in the public eye.
Michael was never convicted of anything. His insurance company payed out the settlement to the kids family without his control. Obviously, they would do this on his behalf.
He had a pet Chimp……so what? Wish I had one.
He was a bit strange……..wouldn’t you be, too, after years of abuse and having been forced into a huge work schedule as a child. I have a friend who was a child abuse victim and she has an apartment filled with toys…….a bit symptomatic, I would think.
He admired Walt Disney and tried to create his own fantasy world…….so what!
Everything he did or had did to him was blown out of proportion. He was a victim and the media drove him into an early grave.

I think public opinion and their closed mindedness is responsible for Michael Jackson’s pain. We’re all guilty of judging him. As I said elsewhere….what if he was a virgin? THAT IS NOT A CRIME. What if he was asexual? THAT IS NOT A CRIME. What if he didn’t “kiss and tell” or show PDA THAT IS NOT A CRIME. We criminalized him for doing things that were NOT A CRIME. I say this as someone who judged him. Someone who lost interest in his music, not because it wasn’t good but because I thought he was more sensationalized than his music. I feel terrible about that now. I’ve educated myself in recent months about Michael…through interviews and his music, reading the court depositions, etc.,, without medias spin. Michael Jackson was found “Not Guilty” and if you watch the footage of him exiting the court after his verdict. He wasn’t a cocky man like OJ, ready to party. He was devastated and destroyed. He was expressionless. Lost. An innocent soul who loved life, trusted people and had lost all faith in humanity. Unlike OJ, he was an innocent man. And it showed.

I suggest anyone who believes MJ was guilty of child molestation read Redemption by Geraldine Hughes and The Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones. Both books are based on actual facts and trial transcripts surrounding these allegations. He was betrayed and extorted by the parents of the only people he felt comfortable around – children that he loved and tried to help. Ask yourself why would MJ molest a child while being investigated AFTER the Bashir Documentary was released? And why dates had to be changed by the Prosecutor because during the alleged time frame he wasn’t even at NL. The media definitely contributed to the early demise of MJ by not reporting the truth during his trial. The facts were completely distorted, skewed and in favor of the state although EVERY single witness was deemed not credible during cross examinatin. Once you are accused of child molestation – no matter the facts surrounding it – it is hard to prove your innocence even though the burden lies on the state to prove your guilt. I cannot even imagine what MJ endured having to live with these false allegations.

I admire your efforts as I am 100% certain he was innocent of the charges and that the world treated his childlike innocent despicably. However, there was no “trial” in 1993, so your claims that he became addicted to pain killers from the stress of “the trial” at that time is inaccurate. Also, his daughter’s name is “PARIS”, not “Paige”.

I did not even realize that I put Paige instead of Paris. I was really tired when I added this post, I am lucky that it came out a good as it did.

It’s cool. Maybe I’m just edgy because I realize the media are incapable of print fact as fact and your errors, albeit a blog, in reporting just pissed me off. Sorry if I was harsh.

Yes I think the media had a hand in MJs death. They played him like a puppet on a strink. Like the old saying goes the tongue is more powerful then the sword. The blew every thing in his life up, but not once focused on the good things that he had done. No one bother to find out the real truth until it was to late.

If you are coming here to argue, do not come at all. I do not care if you are pissed off, take the attitude to another site. I told you that I was tired when I wrote the article. If you do not like it, write your own, just get off of my back. Plus, you do not know what size my house is. I was researching Jackson and the media while I was writing, I made mistakes, which I admitted, so why are you forcing the issue? Just do me a favor and refrain from leaving comments on this site.
