MyNetworkTV could have Found Ratings
It seems as if MyNetworkTV intentionally shuns the TV viewers. First, they debut the telenovela lineup upon their 2006 creation. Then, they shift to reality shows a year later.
In 2008, they seemed well on their way to finding their niche. The same week that The CW announced the cancellation of “Girlfriends,” MyNet announced the arrival of “Under one Roof,” starring Kelly Perine and Flavor Flav.
That fall, the sitcom was joined by Tony Rock’s “The Tony Rock Project.” Both shows were sub-par, at best.
For a network that is supposed to be owned by News Corp., you would expect more. Sister network, FOX, built its audience off of black sitcoms. From 2006 until 2009, television, in general, shunned the black audience, this was the perfect time for the network to strike.
Had they, by now, they would have easily defeated The CW in the ratings race as UPN had to The WB.
Instead, this fall, MyNetworkTV will syndicate programs from NBC, taking a “hiatus” from original programming.
