Paul Pierce, on the Cusp of Greatness
Just one year ago, Paul Pierce was on top of the world, he finally had his ring. To top it all off, he was voted NBA Finals MVP over Kobe Bryant. Then, last season, it all came crashing down.
At the beginning of last season, the Boston Celtics were looking poised to repeat as NBA champions. At Christmas, Boston sat on top of the league at 27-3. In February, Kevin Garnett went down with an injury.
The Celtics stumbled to the second seed with a 62-20 record. Paul Pierce found himself defening an emerging star in Derrick Rose. The Celtics were pushed to seven games by Rose’s Bulls. Their season would end in May at the hands of Dwight Howard and his Orlando Magic. Pierce was expected to still be playing in June.
This upcoming season, Boston is healthy and many are predicting the Celtics to return to championship form with a healthy Kevin Garnett.
Still, winning the East means that the Celtics will have to work a bit harder than they did in 2008.
