Why didn’t BET try to Save “Chris,” Too?
BET made headlines this summer for aggressively going after the hit sitcom, “The Game.” Currently, it is unclear if the series will return for a fourth season on the network. Some are forgetting that “The Game” was not the only black sitcom lost this past May.
Chris Rock’s sitcom, “Everybody Hates Chris,” was one of the staples of The CW Television Network. It was loosely based on the life of Chris Rock growing up in Brooklyn. Until recently, it was the top black sitcom on television. It used to constantly top “The Game.”
For some reason, it was forgotten during the “Save The Game” campaign. When The CW renewed every show on their schedule except for “Reaper,” “The Game,” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” Rock played things safe and created a series finale. He said that the series was unlikely to come back and things ended right.
Even though he prepared for the worst and ended his series, who wasn’t BET there, trying to save “Everybody Hates Chris,” too? After all, the show had a longer history and bigger stars. It would have been a great fit for BET, as proven by their reruns on the channel.
Reruns of “Everybody Hates Chris” run daily on BET at 5:00 and 5:30 pm.
